Bomb Threat At Brandeis Closes University

Brandeis is the latest to close for the day in the area following an emailed bomb threat.

WALTHAM, MA — A bomb threat at Brandeis University has forced an evacuation of staff and students and the university has closed its doors for the morning.

"In light of emailed threats received this morning and with an abundance of caution, the Brandeis University campus has been evacuated and closed to all faculty and non-essential personnel. Residential students currently on campus have been relocated temporarily to playing fields near Gosman." reads a statement by university officials sent via email to the Waltham Patch.

Brandeis University public safety is working with law enforcement to investigate the threat, according to Brandeis officials. The Waltham Police said they would not comment because the threat was still under investigation, but the Fire Marshall Officials who were called in following a similar threat yesterday at the Waltham Public library said as of 11 a.m. they were not called in to conduct an investigation at the University and referred the Patch to the Waltham Police, which was not releasing further information.

The campus will be re-opened once public safety personnel can assure our community that there is no longer a threat, according to the university officials. Right now public safety personnel are checking and clearing campus buildings are to assure that all buildings are safe for community members to return. Residential students remaining on campus are with Student Affairs personnel.

This news comes just a day after the Waltham Public Library closed following a similar emailed threat. Last month a number of schools in Waltham also received an emailed bomb threat and evacuated.
