Protesting For Health
Ever consider protesting for your health? Observing the occupy movement made me consider also the importance of standing up for one's own well-being.

There I was on the pavement. Only a moment before I was skateboarding at my college’s skate park. And before I knew it, my ankle turned, I heard what I thoughts was a snap, and fell. But right there, in prayer, I decided I wouldn’t take this spill lying down.
Instead, I down right protested against the concept that I could be hurt or injured.
Really?! Protest against injury?
To unpack this a little, I’ve often thought of protesting as only being part of societal issues — where I’ve hoped to see more equality. Or, protesting against any kind of injustice.
And the recent protests in New York and around the world have led me to think a lot about the way I’ve learned to protest against sickness or injury in the past.
For me, prayer is a wonderful means of protesting for my well-being. I don’t believe sickness is something I have to agree with. And I’ve learned that by relying on prayer and God’s healing power, sickness can be protested and averted — mentally.
Back to my ankle. I immediately knew I had a choice to make in order to find relief — should I rely on prayer or medicine? Asking myself questions was, and is, a natural part of how I think. However, I’ve regularly used a prayer-based method of health care which anyone can use — Christian Science. I’ve seen how well it has worked for me as well as close friends and family, a good basis for selecting any method of health care!
In choosing how I would protest for my health and well-being, I decided to go with what I knew brought results and what felt natural to me, so I chose prayer.
I’m grateful to say that within 24 hours my ankle was restored quickly and permanently. All pain and swelling quickly left, and I walked normally to class without crutches. Within a week, I felt ready to skateboard again. I’m also grateful to say that I haven’t had any trouble with my ankle since that incident ten years ago.
