Taking Thoughtful Action To Help The MBTA
Thinking about the MBTA and a way to find solutions to its massive budget shortfall.

One thing I appreciate deeply about Waltham is the diversity of people. And even though Massachusetts is known for being more Democratic than Republican, I am sure that opinions on political matters remain varied.
For instance, not everyone may agree on what the right path is to correct the MBTA’s current financial state. Here are a few questions people may be asking themselves: is this something the MBTA should work out on its own, is it a state funding problem, or are there other options not yet explored or discussed?
I don't know what the right path is, but I do want to see a good resolution. I am grateful for the T. I’m not a big fan of driving, cars or the costs that come with either. I appreciate public transportation because it's a shared activity by bringing people together, it helps people get from A to B, it can keep people safe by giving partiers an option to driving, and in the long run I believe it is better for the environment.
For me, whenever I face a problem, I turn to prayer, even if I think I know the answer. Prayer helps me calm fearful thoughts, get grounded and level headed, find peace, and helps lead me toward harmonious resolutions.
Through Christian Science, I discovered prayer can help me find a lost wallet, improve my health, find a new job, and even discover creative solutions to money problems. So I don’t see prayer as passive and full of chance. Rather, I believe it is dynamic, active, and powerful.
I've also learned that the action of prayer is both a reaching out, and a listening, for solutions from God. No matter where you are religiously, you too can hear good and new ideas that can help your life and the community around you.
In the coming days my hope is to learn more about the situation the MBTA is facing and contribute positively toward a desired resolution. Even though I plan to attend the public meeting about the T this week, the first thing I want to do is be supportive of progress and new ideas.
Our collective, creative thought may just be the needed x-factor. Supportive thoughts may help more than you even know.
I’ve heard the joke that pretty much anything can be found in Waltham — from watch parts to nuclear parts. So why not a solution to the T’s problems?
