Local woman battling lupus nephritis in desperate need of kidney transplant

Dania, 26, lives with her husband in Newton, MA. A lover of cats, fashion, travel, and food, Dania is a kind and thoughtful young woman who unfortunately has had to put her life on hold as she battles lupus nephritis. Diagnosed with lupus at age 11, Dania received chemotherapy treatment at that time and was living a normal life until about 6 months ago when her doctors discovered she was in kidney failure and needed to start dialysis immediately.

Originally from Bangladesh, Dania attended Clark University and graduated with a degree in International Development in 2012 and earned a Master’s degree from Clark in Public Administration in 2013. She has worked at Brandeis University for the past two years and has become a beloved member of the Brandeis staff. According to Dania, her mission in life has always been to do good work that can help inspire positive change in the world.

Dania is on the national kidney transplant list; however, the expected wait time is over 7 years. Her parents and siblings have all been disqualified as potential donors, and she needs to find a match soon in order to combat additional health complications that have been brought on by her dialysis treatments. Despite the obstacles, Dania remains optimistic of finding a compatible donor. The ideal donor is someone between the ages of 18-40 with type O or B blood. Prospective donors should contact Dania at danianeedsakidney@gmail.com or Massachusetts General Hospital directly at 617-643-7193 and ask to be tested as a match for Dania Khandaker.
