A Conversation about Saving the Charles River and New Environmentalism

Join us for a chat with author David Gessner and the "River Man" Dan Driscoll to hear about restoring the Charles and new environmentalism.

In 2011, author David Gessner published My Green Manifesto, a chronology of his canoe trip down the Charles River with Dan Driscoll, the MA Department of Conservation and Recreation staffer responsible for making the Charles the gem it is today. On their multi-day journey enjoying the sights and sounds of the river from source to mouth, they discuss the challenges Dan faced while fighting for the watercourse made famous by the song Dirty Water, and attempt to identify the tenets of new environmentalism.

We are thrilled to welcome David and Dan to Waltham to recount the stories and share their ideas about falling in love with something natural and "fighting like hell for it." The event is free, but donations are welcome!

The program will take place on the Bentley University campus in Wilder Pavilion, which is located in the Adamian Building. Park in lot 9. Allow extra time to locate the building on campus, and time to walk from the parking lot to the building. Download this detailed map for directions to the Adamian Building.

Buy copies of My Green Manifesto, All the Wild that Remains (David's latest work), and Return of the Osprey (takes place on Cape Cod) at the event! The Barnes and Noble Bookstore at Bentley University will be bringing these books to the program for purchase, and the guys will sign a bunch after the program.
