English At Large Seeks Volunteers to Tutor Local Immigrants

We currently have openings in our next Tutor Training Cycle, which begins in September

Do you have a passion for the making a difference and the time to help others? English At Large (EAL) is now recruiting volunteers from the local community to support its One-to-One Tutoring Program, which serves local English language learners.

No prior teaching experience is required. With training and support from EAL staff, volunteers provide individual tutoring in local public spaces to immigrants who face barriers to achievement due to limited English language skills. Successful tutors have an appreciation of cultural differences, are patient, flexible, organized, and are willing to provide instruction that is learner-centered to support each individual’s life and personal goals. Volunteer tutors receive comprehensive training and ongoing support from EAL staff, and join a community of caring, committed local people serving almost 500 learners each year.

English At Large is a local nonprofit that provides individual and small group instruction through a volunteer network to immigrants who want to learn English to adapt to life in the United States. Our One-to-One Tutoring, Conversation Groups, Career Access Lab and Beginner English Programs help immigrants in 21 local communities develop the English skills needed to overcome barriers to life goals, to obtain meaningful employment, advance their careers, support their children’s education, access community resources, prepare for U.S. citizenship and participate in community life.
