David Kaiser discusses How the Hippies Saved Physics

In the 1970s, a group of unconventional Berkeley, California hippie-scientists decided to use their speculative mysticism to spin previously unrecognized ideas of quantum theory. The result led to new discoveries that validated the counterculture's influence on mainstream physics.

David Kaiser, author of the award-winning book, Drawing Theories Apart: The Dispersion of Feynman Diagrams in Postwar Physics is a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he teaches in the Program in Science, Technology, and Society and the Department of Physics.
