Every Person Needs Companionship, Especially Seniors.

For elderly individuals, there is an even more important reason to nurture companionships.

It is no secret that friendships bring us joy. From the time we meet our first friends in grade school, companionship is always in the forefront of our minds.

For elderly individuals, there is an even more important reason to nurture companionships:

companionship is important for health of seniors and elderly

It's been noted in a number of gerontology studies that those seniors who had friends or other regular companionship reported having greater feelings of worthiness, independence and general feelings of happiness than those who were more isolated.

We, as caregivers, understand how we play a role as a companion for your loved one. We also understand that we can help your loved one by encouraging his/her relationships with others.

Companionship Can Save Lives
Another positive aspect of regular companionship can actually end up being a life saver. If someone enjoys regular contact with others, there is an increased chance that those folks might notice physical changes, changes in mood or other signs of a problem. Also, those with a steady companion relationship are more likely to share their own concerns of their well-being or physical health which can then be addressed.

Help Seniors Stay Connected With Friends
As caregivers, we need to pay attention to helping seniors nurture their own friendships. By helping them schedule and attend social gatherings, such as card games at senior centers or visits from neighbors, we can help ensure your loved one experiences the benefits of companionship on a regular basis.

As caregivers, of course we attend their physical needs, but we also keep in mind that by simply talking, playing a card game or looking at old family photos, we can nurture your loved ones' emotional needs by building a friendship with them.

We Can Help.

Friendship, companionship, and confidant: those are all shoes that caregivers fill. When homemaking and personal care tasks are completed, an in-home care provider can share in a senior's favorite pastimes. This might be playing a board game, going for a walk, or going to a social organization or church function. For Happy at Home, these types of activities are as essential to a senior's well-being as the homemaking and personal care services.

Everyone benefits from a good, healthful relationship-the senior, the caregiver, and the senior's family.

At Happy at Home, we take pride in providing personalized services to the families in our community. Read more on this subject.

Our pledge to treat your loved ones with the grace and dignity they deserve is what truly separates Happy at Home from the competition.
