George Frost To Be Waltham Schools Interim Superintendent
The Waltham School Committee said they'll get to work on finding a permanent superintendent next month.

WALTHAM, MA — Waltham's School Committee has decided on an interim superintendent. George Frost, who is the current administrator of human resources for the schools, will slide into the superintendent role beginning next month, as outgoing Superintendent Drew Echelson prepares to leave.
"We are pleased to report that we had three extraordinary candidates. In our final analysis we selected George Frost, who currently serves as the Administrator of Human Resources for Waltham Public Schools, as the Interim Superintendent," according to an announcement released Friday.
"I have some very large shoes to fill from Drew Echelson who has been a tremendous leader for the school district for the last, nearly four years. I'm excited for the opportunity," Frost told the School Committee Wednesday night.

Frost will serve through June 30, 2020.
Frost has been the administrator for the Waltham Schools human resources since 2012. But before that, he has extensive experience with schools.

"As you look through his background it's almost a perfect fit," said School Committee member Margaret Donnelly
He was the interim Superintendent of Schools in Ayer from July 2007 through June 2011, where he led the effort to form a new regional school district with the Shirley Public Schools.
Frost also served the Acton Public and Acton-Boxborough Regional Schools as both deputy superintendent for administration and assistant superintendent for curriculum/instruction from 1994 through 2007.
During his time in the Waltham Public Schools, Frost has been involved in helping project enrollment growth and patterns that have in turn, led to reliable budget building and staffing, as well as implemented a boundary change plan which balanced enrollments and eased space constraints, according to a district announcement.
The district praises him for his ability to help negotiate contracts timely and experience with the MSBA.
Frost attended high school in Waltham and is a graduate of Brandeis University, and lived here for some 30 years.
"At our May 1, 2019 meeting, we will begin the process of discussing our plans for the permanent Superintendent role. There will be many opportunities for community input and engagement and we look forward to hearing from our community about how we can build of the great work happening in the Waltham Public Schools," according to the announcement.
