Beginning Friday, December 11, Girl Scouts across eastern Massachusetts will participate in the largest girl-led business in the world. The Girl Scout Cookie Program teaches girls five essential skills: goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills and business ethics. For the second consecutive year, Girl Scouts will also gain valuable lessons in digital marketing as they conduct cookie sales via email marketing and a cookie app, with the option to ship cookies to a customer’s doorstep directly from the baker.

For a limited time each year, Girl Scouts bring back the cookies you crave. This year’s eight returning cookie flavors are Thin Mints®, Caramel deLites®, Peanut Butter Patties®, Thanks-A-Lot®, Peanut Butter Sandwich, Cranberry Citrus Crisps, Lemonades™, Shortbread and Trios, a glutenfree whole grain cookie with peanut butter and chocolate. All varieties are $5 per package in eastern Massachusetts.

“The Girl Scout Cookie Program provides consumers with a quality product available exclusively from their local Girl Scouts for a limited time each year,” said Patricia A. Parcellin, Chief Executive Officer, Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts. “Each package of cookies purchased is an investment in our mission to build girl leaders.”

Each package of Girl Scout cookies supports efforts to ensure that every girl has what she needs to build courage, confidence and character. Through participation in the cookie program, Girl Scout troops raise their own funds to pay for a wide variety of Girl Scout activities of their choosing. Proceeds from the program help girls fund field trips, attend programs, offset summer camp costs, and cover the costs of community service projects in fulfillment of the Girl Scout mission “to make the world a better place.”

As part of the annual cookie program, consumers can buy and enjoy cookies, and they can buy and donate cookies through GSEM’s “Cookies for a Cause” initiative. Cookies for a Cause purchases are set aside by the girls for donation to military organizations, food pantries, and other local charities at the conclusion of the cookie program. Last year, GSEM donated more than 30,000 packages of cookies collected through Cookies for a Cause. The event was held at Hanscom Air Force Base in March.
