Learn basics, prepare for divorce process in Waltham workshop

Help for people in the divorce process with finances, legal and family issues that may arise, March 10 at Waltham workshop

One participant leans in, pounding notes into a tablet computer; another’s hands deftly work knitting needles while she’s every bit attentive.
Both engage actively in this nonprofit workshop, “Divorce Matters – Next Step: Untying the Legal, Emotional and Financial Knot.” Because like any upheaval in life, each person processes information or their emotions about divorce in a unique way. This information-packed workshop is geared to help people considering, approaching or in the midst of divorce set expectations and make wise decisions.
It is presented every other month in Waltham and will next be presented from 9 a.m. - noon Saturday, March 10 at Brandeis University in the, Mandel Center for the Humanities, Room G10.

Trained professionals will provide information to familiarize participants with the divorce process so they can anticipate challenges with confidence and peace of mind. The workshop is offered through The Divorce Center, a nonprofit educational organization. Cost is $30.
Spouses attend Divorce Matters workshops as individuals, but after attending may recommend that their divorcing spouse does the same. Topics covered include:

  • Legal issues: the particular landscape in Massachusetts
  • Financial issues: questions of property, tax impacts and more
  • Family and child issues: custody/parenting time, emotional and relationship questions
  • Personal perspectives: finding the best mindset to approach one’s unique situation

  • Mediators
