Lincoln-Sudbury Girls' Basketball Sweeps Season Series With Waltham
Waltham's Hawks Fall To Warriors Despite Kern's 14 points.
In many ways, Waltham High School's girls’ varsity basketball team second matchup against Lincoln-Sudbury High School this season was a lot like the first.
The scores were similar, 62-33 and 71-39. The result was the same —— both Waltham losses. But, there were some improvements during a Friday, Feb. 11 game at Lincoln-Sudbury High School.
"We had our times," said Waltham senior Nadja Kern, who led all scorers in the game with 14 points. "We had our little short spurts where we played really well and I think that's what we've been working on. They're a really experienced team, so they're tough to go against, but I think we had our moments where we really did what we've been working on ... but there's definitely some work to be done."

Waltham Coach Denise Nugent said one of her team’s goals heading into the game was to hold Lincoln-Sudbury to fewer points than the first time the teams met. Nugent said the other goal was to increase her team’s score.
"We had more, but they didn't have less," she said, "which is indicative of their improvement. They're very good, a very sharp team."

After their win Friday night, Lincoln-Sudbury was headed to the post-season. They won without two of their top players.
“I think [the injuries] would kill some teams,” said Lincoln-Sudbury coach Liza Feldman, referring to seniors Ali Murray and Katelyn Wright sitting out with injuries. “It’s a credit to all the kids on the team who’ve been working hard and staying fresh for times like this when we need them to.”
Lincoln-Sudbury senior Lindsey Jones was elated at clinching a playoff spot.
“It’s a good relief,” she said. “We started off kind of shaky and kind of pushed through the season. Now, it’s a good relief, but we’re still going to keep playing hard.”
Despite heading toward the playoffs, Feldman said her team needed to continue its hard work.
"We can’t get ahead of ourselves, we’ve got lots of big games coming up,” Feldman said. “It’s nice to know we’re in, and it’s definitely an achievement, something to be proud of, but now that we’re in we put it on hold and we take one game at a time."
