Participation in Research Study

We are looking for people to help us with a study we are conducting to better our understanding of how to help individuals cope with trauma.

My name is Sophie Brickman and I am an undergraduate researcher in the Child and

Adolescent Research and Development (CARD) Lab at Brandeis University. I am reaching out

to you to share information about a study I am conducting that may be applicable to members of

study as a part of a senior honors thesis for Brandeis’ Department of Psychology. We are

interested in learning more about the ways in which individuals cope with trauma, specifically as

it relates to the events of the 2013 Boston Marathon. We hope to collect data from individuals

who were exposed, at varying degrees, to the events of the 2013 Boston Marathon. The rationale

and methods we are employing in the study have been reviewed and approved by the

Institutional Review Board for Human Subject Research of Brandeis University. The study is

administered through a short, online survey that should take approximately 20-30 minutes. You

may save and continue the study; it does not need to be completed all at once. The information

and data collected in the study is completely anonymous and compensation will be offered in the

form of a $5 amazon gift card upon completion of the study.

As a member of a local community, we are reaching out to you to ask for your

participation in our study. If you were in any way affected by the event, or found yourself in any

situation close in proximity to the 2013 Boston Bombing, the details of your experience will be

beneficial to our study. Even if you were not in close proximity to the event, your participation

will still assist us in our research. We hope that with your assistance, we can contribute to the

growing field of trauma psychology and better our understanding of how to help individuals cope

with trauma. If you are willing to participate in the study, you may begin at any point. You can

Thank you so much for your consideration.
