Troop 250 at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery for Flag Retirement

Sleepy Hollow Cemetery Flag Retirement

The annual Veterans Day Flag Retirement Ceremony was held today at 8 a.m. today in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, 34 Bedford St., Concord.

Scouts from Troop 250 took part as they have been doing now for many years. Flag burning takes place when an American flag is deemed too damaged and or tattered to continue to fly. Never is it acceptable for an American flag to be thrown away. The flags that the boys present to a Veteran should be folded in the customary manner. The Veteran then hands the flag off to a member of the Fire Department, in this case the Concord Fire Department who then place the flag(s) into the fire.

It is a very solemn experience and was, as is usual, performed flawlessly and with utmost respect. Thank you to Parish Rice for organizing the Troop for this event every year.
