Waltham Garden Club Celebrates Diamond 75th Anniversary

The officers of the Waltham Garden Club have planned a special year of meetings and events to commemorate the organization's Diamond 75th Anniversary.
The year launches on Tuesday evening, September 20, 2016, at 6:15, with a Dedication Ceremony of the Bright School Gardens designed and planted by members Noreen Cooke and Cathy Gallagher. After the ceremony, there will be an opportunity to hear an overview of the Garden Club's events by President Jane Gibbon as well as hear about the Waltham Historical Society from President Wayne McCarthy and Vice President Sheila Fitzpatrick. The Bright School serves as headquarters for the Waltham Historical Society, and there will be an opportunity to tour their area. Refreshments will be served and the event is open to the public.
A Club Mixer entitled "Diamonds Are Forever" will be held on Tuesday, November 15, 2016, at their usual time and venue which is 6:30PM at the American Legion Hall on Waverley Oaks Road and. Former members and officers will mix and mingle, imbibe and savor refreshments, and create floral arrangements for the fall. This is a members only event.

On Sunday, December 4, 2016, the Garden Club will have its traditional Holiday program at noon at the Paine Estate. Noted Floral Designer Bill Graham will return to show guests how to bling their holiday plants and floral arrangements. Refreshments are served and there will be musical entertainment. Raffles are available for purchase. Tickets are needed to attend.
On April 23, 2017, there will be a tea at the Gore Estate Carriage House in honor of the many memorable Waltham Garden Cub teas which have been held at this site. Author Meg Muckenhoupt will speak on the history of farming and guests will be challenged by a "Guess Who Is Coming to Dinner?" display where the centerpieces and table settings represent famous individuals. The Garden Club will unveil their design plan for Tavern Square at this event which will be ticketed.

Some of the other regular meetings will feature a herbalist, a "birdscaper", an expert gardener, and a Watham Garden Club trivia game. The Waltham Garden Cub also decorates Watham City Hall and the Senior Center and participates in the Festival of Trees at Elm Bank in Wellesley.
