Waltham Girl Honored For Alerting Police During Machete Attack
A Waltham machete attack could have proved deadly had it not been for an unexpected hero. That person, a 9-year-old, was honored this week.

WALTHAM, MA — A recent machete attack had the potential to be deadly if not for the quick thinking of one Waltham girl.
On July 14, Karen Guzman saw a violent attack break out and called 911. That action likely saved a person's life, and, this week, city officials thanked her for it.
Guzman was presented with the Police Chief’s signature coin and a City of Waltham Proclamation. She is only the third person to ever receive the award, officials said.

Police responded to the 34 Hammond St. area at 6:30 p.m. on Friday for a report of a fight involving a machete.
One person suffered a "deep head laceration" from being attacked by the machete. He was transported to an area hospital but the injuries weren't life-threatening, police said.
Only one person was struck by the machete, police said, though two people were assaulted as they tried to stop the attack.
Police said they believe the assault was the result of a neighbor dispute over a car accident.
