A Waltham man is facing attempted murder charges after he allegedly tried to drown his girlfriend.

The alleged victim told police that during the December incident at the Judith Lane house, El-Lakis viciously assaulted her after the pair began arguing, according to Guigno.

“It turned into a very serious assault. He slammed the victim against the wall with his hands and began to choke her,” Guigno said. “When he released her, she fell to the ground and he picked her up again by the neck and dragged her to the kitchen sink and bent her backwards … and was forcing water into her mouth … trying to drown her basically," Guigno said.

El-Lakis allegedly struck the victim several more time, Guigno said.

The victim also told police El-Lakis allegedly assaulted her in Medford recently, according to Guigno. Fearing Lakis would hurt her again, police arrested Lakis.

“With all those combined … it was determined he should be arrested,” Guigno said.
