Waltham Resident Wins $50K In Lottery

Did you know that so far this year three Waltham residents have won the MA Lottery?

WALTHAM, MA — So far this year three Waltham residents have won the lottery. And Waltham area convenience stores appear pretty lucky, too. Five different Waltham stores have sold a winning lottery ticket so far this year.

The most recent Waltham resident to win the lottery is Richard Rizza. He walked into the Hannaford on Russell Street, bought a powerball ticket and then happened to win the third-tiered Powerball prize of $50,000 after matching four of his numbers plus the Powerball to those drawn in the May 19, 2018 drawing.

Rizza chose to collect his prize in the form of a one-time payment of $50,000 (which means he'll have to pay the tax on that lump sum). He told the Lottery officials he plans to use part of his winnings to do some home repairs.
