Waltham Schools Adjust Schedule For Paul Tracey Funeral, Services

WALTHAM, MA — The public school district has changed the Thursday and Friday schedule for students and district employees this week as the city prepares for the funeral of Paul Tracey.

All Waltham Public Schools will have a half-day on Thursday. Elementary schools will let out at 11:45 a.m., middle schools will be dismissed at 11:15 a.m., and high school students will leave at 10:45 a.m. The district office will close at noon.

On Friday, all schools and district buildings will be closed.

Our Lady’s Academy will also have a half-day on Thursday and be closed on Friday.

Waltham is preparing for the funeral and procession for Tracey, which will take over the city on Friday and allow the public to attend a wake on Thursday.

This will seriously impact traffic, and police have urged residents to make adjustments to account for the services.

"As we prepare to honor fallen Officer Paul Tracey at his wake and funeral, we want the public to know the magnitude of the impact this will have on local traffic," police said.

"If the option to work remotely exists, it is strongly encouraged. Non-essential travel in Waltham should be avoided."

A wake is scheduled for Thursday at Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Parish, 920 Trapelo Rd., in Waltham. Public hours are 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.

A Friday funeral will also be held at Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Parish, beginning at 10 a.m. The burial will take place following the funeral at Mt. Feake Cemetery, 203 Prospect St., in Waltham.

Parking for both services for the public will be at the 1601 Trapelo Rd. office park and the Kennedy Middle School with shuttle service. Parking is limited, and police said to carpool if possible.
