Waltham Steak House Set To Open On Main Street

The Federal is set to open this month where Flank, the steak house where eating with your hands was encouraged, sat closed.

WALTHAM, MA — There's about to be a new steakhouse in town. According to a sign out front, the Federal is hiring with plans to open this month.

"The restaurant will be upscale and affordable, comfortable, and relaxed," reads a description on the restaurant's Facebook page that also describes the place as a "new steakhouse with Modern Italian inspired food."

The Federal replaces the steakhouse Flank (where eating with your hands was encouraged), on Main Street.

David Alphonse and Richard Brackett of AB Hospitality Group were poised to buy the restaurant after Flank on Main Street closed earlier this year after just two years at it. In May Brackett told the license commission the Federal’s menu would incorporate Flank’s steaks and chops, but it would add some Italian dishes from 29 Sudbury, a sister restaurant.

The new restaurant was scheduled to open this summer, the Waltham Channel reported. But according to a post on the Federal's Facebook page, they were only able to officially close the deal on the space earlier this month.
