Waltham Teen Charged For Murder On Adams Street

A Waltham Teen was arraigned today in court for the death of a woman on Adams Street. He is charged with murder.

WALTHAM, MA — A day after a woman was found beaten to death in an Adams Street home, an 18-year-old was arraigned in connection and charged with her murder.

Derrick Lopez, 18, of Waltham was arraigned today in Waltham District Court in connection with the death of Christin Tobin, 36, of Waltham this weekend.

Lopez is charged with murder. Judge Gregory Flynn ordered the defendant held without bail, according to the District Attorney's office.

The next scheduled hearing in this case is August 29.

On Saturday, July 15, at approximately 2:40 a.m., Waltham Police responded to a report of an assault on a woman. When police arrived, they found Tobin, dead. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner later ruled the cause of death to be sharp force trauma to the head, neck, and upper torso.

Lopez was allegedly introduced to the Tobin by a third party. The preliminary investigation suggests that the defendant allegedly attacked the woman inside her room in the Adams Street boarding house, fatally stabbing her multiple times early Saturday morning.

This charge is an allegation and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
