Waltham Volunteers Bring New Life To Your Damaged Goods: Report
The Waltham Repair Cafe will try to fix almost anything you bring in, such as appliances, jewelry and bikes. For free.
WALTHAM, MA — If you’re stuck with a broken appliance, a sagging chair or a stuffed animal that’s lost its stuff, the Waltham Repair Cafe is ready to help.
The Repair Cafe’s founder, Krysta Petrie, told Boston TV channel WCVB-5 the volunteers can fix almost anything. Or at least they’ll try. The list includes jewelry, electronics, clothing, small furniture, bikes, musical instruments – basically, whatever you can carry to the cafe.
The cafe is like a walk-in clinic. Volunteers fix your household objects – at no charge – during regularly scheduled public events. The next one is slated for Saturday, Feb. 14.

Some of the volunteers are highly skilled and specialize in certain types of repairs, such as mending clothes. The cafe tries to match each item with the repairer who can best help, and Petrie told WCVB’s Leanna Scachetti the cafe is always seeking new volunteers.
The Feb. 14 cafe will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Charles River Museum of Industry and Innovation, 154 Moody St. in downtown Waltham. Admission to the museum is also free that day.
