WPO Collaborates with Plympton Elementary School

Concert on May 6

Each year the Plympton Elementary School immerses itself in the cultures of one of the 6 inhabited continents. This year they have been studying Oceania. As part of their studies, didgeridoo player, Daniel Orlansky visited the school in March to demonstrate the didgeridoo. This visit also prepared students for an upcoming Waltham Philharmonic Concert entitled “Australian Dreamscape.”
Since 2014, The Waltham Philharmonic Orchestra and the Plympton Elementary School have collaborated to present a concert based on the school’s continent of study. Music teacher Gina DePaoli involves the children in the musical culture of the year’s continent through singing, dancing, playing instruments and research. This year student projects and audio recordings of the music class activities will be displayed in the lobby during the concert and students will narrate the concert. In past years the Waltham Philharmonic Orchestra has performed music of South America (South of the Border), Asia (Asian Dreamscape), Europe (Wolfgang, Cesar, and Friends), and North America (American Rhapsody). Daniel Orlansky will be featured as well as a student bassoonist who won the orchestra’s student concerto competition. The concert will feature music by Australian composers Sean O’Boyle and Peter Sculthorpe, as well as music by Rimsky-Korsakov and von Weber. This will take place at 3:00 pm at Kennedy Middle School, 665 Lexington St, Waltham, MA 02452. Regular ticket prices are $20.00; Seniors/Students (18+): $15.00; Children always have free admission. A Pre-Concert Lecture will begin at 2:30pm. The students, school staff, and orchestra members look forward to another successful collaboration.
