Former players, colleagues, and town officials describe how his demanding but caring style, community service, and deep faith helped build Wareham’s basketball tradition and mentored generations on and off the court.

• Margaret Johanna (Maki) Grassi, 90 (theweektoday.com) — Wareham is mourning Margaret Johanna (Maki) Grassi of West Wareham, a pioneering local insurance agency owner who died Sept. 12 at age 90. A former small-business leader and community volunteer in Wareham, Carver, and Rochester, she leaves a large local family, with visiting hours and a funeral service scheduled Sept. 20 at Chapman Funerals & Cremations in Wareham.
