Belmont Man Arrested for an Alleged String of Cigarette Thefts

Man had stolen items from the Main Street CVS.

Police tracked a Belmont man wanted for to a home on Spring Street and made and arrest on May 2.

Watertown Police received a warrant for the arrest of Michael S. Saparoff, 30, of 23 Madison St. in Belmont, for violation probation out of Cambridge District Court, Watertown Police Sgt. Thomas Grady said.

Saparoff is accused of going into stores, asking for a carton of cigarettes, and then asking where the newspapers are located. When he headed toward the newsstand, he would take the cigarettes and just keep going out the exit without paying, Grady said.

Police served the warrant at 152 Spring Street at 8:57 p.m. on May 2.
