Bites Nearby: D & D Pizza & Subs

This family-owned eatery on Mount Auburn St. in Watertown is a real find.

Open a year-and-a-half, D & D Pizza Subs, at 135 Mount Auburn St. in Watertown, is run by a Greek family that had a restaurant in another part of the town for 12 years. The food is simple and good and the service is fast and friendly. The interior, which includes four tables, is clean and airy. The place is open for both lunch and dinner, and with its fresh food and reasonable prices, it's worth checking out.

What to eat: None of the ingredients are frozen, so the food tastes like something – it gets rave reviews on food websites like Yelp.com. The grilled chicken dishes are popular, as either subs, wraps, dinners, or in salads. The chicken cutlet sub is warm, crisp and fresh-tasting, and comes with cheese, lettuce, tomato and mayo. There's also pizza and calzones. For dessert, baklava and oatmeal-raisin cookies are available at the counter.

The Vibe: The place is run by a family, with one or two helpers, so it feels like one is getting personal attention.
