has been at 51 Main St. in Watertown for two and a half years – yet many people probably still don't know that there's a good Indian restaurant in Watertown Square. Perhaps it's because the place is small and gets overshadowed by better known restaurants in the square. It's on a par with any of the Indian eateries in Waltham or Harvard Square, the prices are at least as reasonable and the service is friendly. "Just ask us how spicy you want something," says manager Karan Sandhir. (Note: the place may be sold to a new Indian restaurant owner in the near future.)
What to eat: On a recent Friday afternoon, the all-you-can-eat buffet ($8.99) was excellent, which is a good sign. It had a half-dozen well-seasoned main dishes, including chicken tikka masala, tandoori chicken, two vegetarian entrees, a goat curry, crispy vegetable pakoras, basmati rice, raita (a cold, creamy, soup-like dish for cooling spicy foods), and a dessert of sweet, cheese-filled balls in an aromatic sauce. For dinner, there are all the classic Indian curries, biryani rice dishes, dal and coconut soup, and 16 different kinds of bread. There's also beer and wine.
The vibe: Cozy, quiet and comfortable.

Cool factor No. 1: The background music is delicate, lilting Indian classical songs.
Cool factor No. 2: There are three or four different buffet desserts, not just rice pudding, and they get rotated every two days.

Cool factor No. 3: Little touches: big cloth napkins and the water glasses have stems on them.
