5 Tips for Selecting a Roofing Company

There are a number of factors you want to consider when searching for a roofing contractor.

When you are searching for a roofing contractor for your next home improvement project, there are a number of factors you want to consider.

1.) Is the contractor you are working with licensed and bonded?

This is an important factor. You don't want to hire anyone who doesn't have the necessary roofing experience to work on your home. While you may find someone
who can offer a better price initially, a few months or years down the line and you may find a poor repair job or installation can cost you much more than planned.

2.) Is the contractor a member of the BBB?

While a BBB (Better Business Bureau) ranking doesn't necessarily mean the person has the right experience, it is a leading indicator. Most reputable companies are proud to maintain an A+ ranking with the BBB, with no reported consumer complaints.

3.) Is the company insured?

This is a VERY important item some people overlook. Any roofing company you consider should maintain current insurance, and be willing to show you the appropriate documentation.

4.) Can they do more than just the roof repair?

A lot of times a leaking roof can be representative of other problems – a bad gutter system, structural problems, etc. It is important the person who is doing your repair work be an expert in many areas. Sometimes just patching a small hole is not enough to fix a problem, and could make a situation worse. Be sure to have someone inspect your entire roof for damage.

5.) Are other customers willing to recommend the company?

This is a very important factor in decided who to work with. If other customers are satisfied with their experience with a company, they will be willing to recommend the company to their friends and neighbors. A good way to check this is to search for reviews on Google, Yelp, or the BBB, and see if the company you are considering has a solid history of positive reviews.

Whoever you choose, above all else, make certain you feel comfortable communicating with the company, and have a full understanding of exactly what the repair or installation will consist of. Be sure to get everything in writing, and things will go much smoother.
