To me, this means that you have to learn to grab onto your inspired ideas and find some time and space to work on them, right there in the course of your day, your week, your life.
It can be really hard to keep track of a good idea while you’re doing other things. Often I get an idea when I’m in a situation where I have no way of writing it down. I might be in the shower, or I might be running in the woods, and there’s no paper pen iphone ipad computer nothing.

I used to think that I would just remember my idea, and then when I got back to a place where I could put it down, it was gone. DO NOT TRUST your brain to remember these things without effort.
Once I was in the woods and I found an abandoned cemetery. I learned that it had been the official burial place for the local mental hospital and also for a residential facility for disabled kids. Back in the cemetery’s time, those institutions were called by other names that weren’t so nice.

I felt moved by the story, and as I ran on I began to get lyrics and melody for the chorus of a song about a young woman I imagined who had been buried there. I was determined not to lose my ideas, even though I had no way to write or record them until I got back to my car.
I stopped running and just walked the rest of the way so I could focus on remembering the song. As chunks of lyrics came to me, I sang them over and over, practicing them so I would remember them.
It took all of my concentration, but by the time I got back to my car, I had written a chorus, 2 verses, and I had the concept for the ending of the song. I had the melody mostly worked out, and I could hear the chord changes in my mind.
That song is called “My Name Is Celia,” and I’ve just finished recording it. You can listen to it at http://www.reverbnation.com/play_now/17232498
The moral of this story is, Learn to hang onto your ideas, even when you can’t write them down immediately.
Remember that your inspired ideas are priceless, they are treasures that you must protect vigilantly.
How can you protect yours?
