There’s a new look at the Watertown Free Public Library. Sprouting up all over are bookmarks, buttons, stickers and brochures with our new logo.
Designed by the library’s PR and website specialist, Sara Talbot, the logo takes its inspiration from the Charles River, long the life blood of Watertown. A graduate of Mt. Ida College’s graphic design program, Sara took the principles she’d learned about organizational identity and branding to heart when she designed the library logo.
Sara learned about Watertown history, its early relationship to the river and its industrial and community dependence on the Charles. The library’s local history collection and staff gave her ideas that were transformed into the new logo.

Even the blue and green color scheme comes from the environmental and ecological images fostered by the Charles – its current recreational value and great natural beauty. The logo itself is open to various interpretations and represents a library that offers both traditional and cutting edge services.
Sara has created a simple, clean, modern look for the library that works beautifully on printed letterhead and newsletters. It is dynamic on electronic items and has an attractive future on other merchandise that is now in the planning stage.
