Your library has everything to read and watch and listen to. But it also has plenty to do right in the building.
Watertown Free Public Library is the place to be, and over 352,000 people were there in the last fiscal year. The library has just completed its annual statistical survey for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2011.
The figures are surprising. They show a lot of activity “in house”, not just in borrowing materials.

Groups and programs, small and large, met over 3600 times. Any group whose meeting is free and open to the public can book a room, either online at www.watertownlib.org or by stopping by the second floor Administration office. Programs for a dozen to 200 attendees can be accommodated in our three meeting rooms. Study rooms for small group use are booked at the reference desk.
Over 13,000 kids, teens and adults attended 512 programs last year. They discussed books, watched movies, played wii games, heard speakers, listened to music and enjoyed each other’s company.

Our just ended summer reading programs were the best attended ever. Two-hundred-and-seventy-four children signed up and logged in 2066 hours of reading. The Teen Department doubled their registration over last year with 125 teens.
Library users come to us with their questions, and 49,000 of them were answered last year. No question is too insignificant and too challenging for our librarians—whether they are in children’s, teen or adult services. Questions come to us by email, regular mail, telephone and in person.
Our computers and laptops are in constant use—to the tune of over 1600 users a week. This month we added a new system to make computer use easier and more profitable. Our new printing set up allows library card holders to add money to their cards which they can then draw on for printing. The first 2 pages of black and white printing are free every day. Color printing is also available, and wireless printing from laptops is on its way.
