National Public Gardens Day at Mount Auburn

President of Watertown Town Council, Mark Sideris, recently issued a proclamation for National Public Gardens Day at Mount Auburn Cemetery - and the (free!) fun does not stop there!

We could all use a little bit of sunshine this week, so there is no better time to recap Mount Auburn's sunny celebration of National Public Gardens Day (NPGD)! Last Friday, May 11th, 2012, we offered a host of fun activities. We started the morning with a free Early Riser's Horticulture Club walk at 7 AM, and then met Watertown Town Council President, Mark Sideris, over at Bigelow Chapel Lawn. He issued a proclamation for NPGD and handed the certificate (now on display in Story Chapel) over to our President, Dave Barnett.

We took a moment to formally launch the Mount Auburn smartphone app which offers several free self-guided tours through the Cemetery. Then Dave Barnett led a special horticultural highlights tour focusing on the diverse blooms currently seen throughout our landscape.

It was a beautiful day for exploring the grounds and appreciating the horticultural collection available to the public for free every day. If you're interested in plants, gardening, or landscape, check out our routinely updated listing of blooms at Mount Auburn, or join us on our next free Early Risers Horticulture Club walk!
