One Book One Watertown 2011

Fall community read

Watertown Free Public Library’s T. Ross Kelly Family gallery has featured a display a month since it opened 5 years ago. That means over 60 area artists have shown their paintings, photographs, posters and even some sculpture in the gallery.

There have been group shows too, as is the case with September’s “Space Art” exhibit. In conjunction with this Fall’s One Book One Watertown program, kids this summer did chalk drawings showing their concepts of space. Many of these colorful and fantastic pictures are a mix of science, fantasy and science fiction.

Becoming a real space scientist was Hiram Hickam, Jr’s goal as a teenager growing up in Coalwood, W.V. "Rocket Boys," our 2011 One Book One Watertown selection, is Hiram’s biography, a coming of age story that inspires and delights.
