Well, this is my first attempt at blogging, punditry, and what I would call “fool-osophy." I am a hard working middle aged single father of a precocious 12 year old girl. While I reside in Waltham, I roam the streets of Watertown almost every day in my taxi. Previous to my transportation endeavors, I worked in politics, public relations, and other forms of performance art. I hope to provoke thought, engage the reader, and most of all entertain. So here goes:
Have you heard of Francis Stanton? As noted in the Waltham Patch, he is a “young Republican” running against Representative Lawn of Watertown. The term “young Republican” is indeed cringe worthy to this observer. I fail to see how any 20 something could belong to a party that is hell bent on taxing the middle class into the Stone Age, cutting taxes on high wage earners and oil companies, and demonizing human differences. Whether the difference may be, sexual orientation, color, immigration status, Republicans continue to oppose equality and divide the electorate to score political points. How could any young person associate themselves with a party that promotes both greed and hate, in exchange for political gain?

Stanton stated that regulations are strangling young entrepreneurs. In my view, recent economic problems lay at the feet of the Bush administration and their promotion of de-regulation and the idiocy of cutting taxes on high wage earners while fighting two wars. We are still waiting for the jobs that those tax breaks were supposed to create.
Regulations and government are akin to a referee in a basketball game. They attempt to level the playing field amongst various interests, competitors, and adversaries. What would an NBA game be without referees? Chaos! What did we get when the Bush led federal government ignored regulation of Wall Street? Chaos and disorder brought on by the attitude that Stanton displays toward refereeing and fair play.

I think Watertown residents would be better served by re-electing the level headed and impressive Representative John Lawn. And besides the issues and policy questions – how great is it to have a lawn sign for Lawn?
Quick hits:
I hope the Nichols Ave road work does not last much longer. We will all benefit from this hard work, but in the meantime it is a pain as this is a key street for those of us in the transportation sector! ... Can someone explain the Kony sign holding in Watertown square a couple of weeks ago? I assume these folks were protesting this thug, but their message was not clear … Everyone should attend the anti Wal-Mart billboard celebration on Saturday, May 5 at 10AM at the corner of Arsenal and Irving Street ... Mitt Romney reminds me of the guy in the neighborhood that is always shouting “Hey kids … stay off of my lawn!”
Tweet of the week from comedian Tracy Morgan: Whenever I delete an app on my iPhone, the shaking icons make me feel like they’re panicked over who’s getting cut from the team.
