TGIF@WFPL! January 6, 2012

Watertown Free Public Library has extended Friday hours as of Jan. 6.

Beginning Friday evening, Jan. 6, 2012, Watertown Free Public Library will be open extended hours.

Those two extra hours between 5 and 7 p.m. give you time to stock up for the weekend.

For our First Friday, Jan. 6, we have planned some extra events to celebrate.  There will be cake and popcorn, door prizes and special displays of “grab ‘n go” items.

This will be a time to browse our great Blu-Ray and regular DVD collections. We have kid, teen and adult films for all tastes and interests.

Curling up with a good book appeals to everyone. Try a bestseller, mystery, or new biography. The adult collection upstairs has a special section of Express and New titles that gives you a chance at high demand books. There are no reserves and no renewals on many of these popular titles. Also try our adult graphic novels shelved just beyond the Express books.

Children and parents can find “read aloud” picture and chapter books, fairytales and favorite subjects like dinosaurs for story times at home.

Teens look for graphic novels, series titles and homework help. Suzanne Collins “Hunger Games” trilogy is a top favorite.

The librarians in each department have arranged many eye catching displays to tempt you, too.

Ebooks have revolutionized publishing, and ebook readers are on many holiday wish lists. We’ve developed handy instruction sheets that cover downloading from our Overdrive collection onto a variety of devices. Come pick up a sheet and browse what’s available.

If you haven’t discovered Playaways, see how convenient these self contained audiobooks are. You can fit the whole device in your pocket. They go with you whether you are out running or taking a long road trip. There are great titles for both adults and kids.

Wii games are fun for the whole family and we have adult, teen and kid versions.

Swing by on Friday, Jan. 6 between 5 and 7. Sample some refreshments, enter our door prize contest and find some good reading, watching and listening for your winter weekend entertainment.
