Watertown RTC Endorses Michael Sullivan for US Senate.

endorsement

The Watertown Republican Town Committee has enthusiastically endorsed Michael Sullivan in the April 30th Primary scheduled to choose the Republican candidate for U.S. Senate.

After Scott Brown’s sudden announcement that he would not seek to run for the seat vacated by Secretary of State John Kerry, many experts predicted that the Republicans would not have enough time to find one viable candidate, let alone gather the 10,000 requisite signatures to get on the ballot.  Well the Republicans now have 3 candidates on the ballot.  However, it is Mike Sullivan’s all volunteer grassroots effort to garner the necessary signatures that stole the show. While his fellow Republican candidate paid professional firms from $5 to $14 per signature, Mike chose to only use grassroots activists. In spite of the short 12 day window, in spite of the worst weather conditions of the winter, over 200 volunteers gathered, not ten, not twenty, but close to thirty-thousand signatures.

Of all the 5 candidates running in this race, Mike Sullivan has the most impressive resume. He spent 16 years working at the Gillette Company, where he started in the Stock Room and worked his way to high executive position. He was first elected a State Representative in 1990 and named “Legislator of the Year” in 1994 by the Massachusetts Municipal Organization.  In 1995 he was named Plymouth County District Attorney to fill a vacancy. He went on to win that seat in 1996 by a substantial margin in a year where Bob Dole running for President only received 28% of the vote in Massachusetts. In 2001, Sullivan was named US Attorney where he prosecuted both political and corporate corruption.
