Cambridge Savings Bank Awards Scholarships to 3 Watertown Students

Three Watertown High School seniors received the awards through the Kevin J. Fitzgerald Scholarship Program.

Cambridge Savings Bank made the following announcement:

recently announced that the Cambridge Savings Charitable Foundation awarded scholarships to three high school seniors from Watertown High School through the 2011 Kevin J. Fitzgerald Scholarship Program, which awarded a total of $65,000 to graduating seniors in Eastern Massachusetts.

This year’s scholarship winners from Watertown High are Mane Hurutyunyan, Rachel Thomas and Brian Francione.

“Cambridge Savings Bank remains committed to supporting local students who are dedicated to their community and furthering their education,” said Robert M. Wilson, president of the Cambridge Savings Charitable Foundation and president and CEO of Cambridge Savings Bank. “The Cambridge Savings Charitable Foundation is proud to have provided hundreds of scholarships to area students over the years.”

In its 20th year, the Kevin J. Fitzgerald Scholarship Program has awarded more than $750,000 to graduating seniors in the communities Cambridge Savings Bank serves. The program typically awards two $2,500 scholarships to local graduating seniors in each community, one for a traditional four-year program, and a second for a two-year technical/vocational or community college program.

In addition to receiving scholarships, Mane, Rachel and Brian were offered summer jobs at Cambridge Savings Bank, which allows them to earn extra funds to help with college expenses.

This year’s recipients were honored at a special Awards Ceremony at Café Escadrille in Burlington.

The Cambridge Savings Charitable Foundation was founded by Cambridge Savings Bank as its primary charitable contribution vehicle. The Foundation's objective is to provide grants to local non-profit organizations for the benefit of people who live or work in Cambridge Savings Bank's Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) communities - Acton, Arlington, Bedford, Belmont, Brookline, Burlington, Cambridge, Concord, Lexington, Lincoln, Medford, Newton, Somerville, Waltham, Watertown, Winchester and Woburn.

Kevin J. Fitzgerald, former chairman of the board for Cambridge Savings Bank, began working at the bank while in college through a cooperative education program and started his full-time banking career upon graduating in 1967. During his career, Mr. Fitzgerald served as the bank’s president, COO and CEO.
