A friend from our stay in Barcelona in 2012 updated us recently about the continued efforts by Catalonia for independence from Spain. He also sent us a link to an in-depth and quite balanced report and YouTube video by an English journalist, Gary Gibson, Spain's Secret Conflict. The interviews with many players make it clear that the disagreement between Madrid and Barcelona is not just about language. With the monarchy's fallen popularity, even the new King Felipe VI, who is fluent in Catalan, is not given much of a chance of healing the divisions.
