Comedy, Dancing and an Auction at the Cunniff School Fundraiser

Laughs, dancing and the possibility of winning Red Sox tickets – all this can be yours at the Cunniff PTO’s fourth annual Comedy Night and Silent Auction.

The event, which features the comedy of Mary Ellen Rinaldi, a DJ, and a silent auction, begins at 7 p.m. Friday, April 8, at Hibernian Hall, 151 Watertown St.

The Cunniff community has been dealing with talk that their school might close, but Lisa Cequeira, a Cunniff parent who is helping to organize the event, said that they want to keep a positive outlook.

“We’re not walking around all doom and gloom, we are moving forward,” Cequeira said. “This will give parents a chance to socialize when they are not rushing off to get kids to swim lessons or dance class.”

Rinaldi has performed in comedy clubs around the country, but Cequeira said she is from New England and her material appeals to parents.

“I think has a great routine. She really speaks to being a parent,” Cequeira said. “She’s a New Englander, and she has some jokes only New Englanders would understand.”

After the Rinaldi’s performance, music will be provided by a Cunniff parent who is a professional DJ.

The evening winds up with a silent auction.

“It’s the season of silent auctions, but we have Red Sox tickets, a Tim Wakefield-signed baseball, the opportunity to attend a Patriots game with a former Patriot player, a Keurig coffee maker and summer camps,” Cequeira said.

Tickets cost $10 in advance, and are available from Cunniff parents or on-line. They cost $15 at the door.
