Drums of Used Cooking Oil Stolen From Watertown Restaurants

Drums of used cooking oil turned up empty at two spots in Watertown when the collection company came to pick up the oil, said Watertown Police Lt. Michael Lawn.

The oil collection company stopped at Green Peapod and Mt. Auburn Grill restaurants on Jan. 22, and found the 55-gallon drums empty, Lawn said. 

"Someone had taken the cooking oil," Lawn said. "It is worth 40 cents a gallon."

In total, $270 of cooking oil had been stolen, Lawn said. The oil can be recycled and turned into biofuels. 

Police are investigating.
