Education is All in the Family at Montessori School for Watertown Clan

Aline Gery is head of school at Lexington Montessori School, where her two sons attend school.

The Lexington Montessori School released the following story:

Sometimes it’s a little unnerving to visit the principal’s office, but when mom is head of school, the experience is definitely outside the norm. Watertown residents James and Jackson Lindberg have found that having mom in the main office at Lexington Montessori School (LMS) has more plusses than minuses.

“It’s nice to know that mom is close by,” said 11-year-old Jackson, who is a fifth-grader at LMS. “She doesn’t bother me or anything.”

Older brother James, finishing the eighth grade agrees that having mom on campus is a positive experience.

“I feel very comfortable at school and very able to talk with the faculty and staff,” James explains. “I’ve always felt I could go to any adult on campus for help … or food. For me LMS is an extension of home.”

LMS Head of School Aline Gery agrees with her sons.

“Working at the same school with my kids makes car rides to and from campus mostly a delight. But I think that, in some ways, I overcompensate," she said.  "That is, I defer everything to teachers and get involved with their school lives less than if I were a parent only. The joy of seeing them in action when they do not know I am there is priceless, however.”

This was the last academic year mother and sons could be found all together at school. James graduated from LMS on Friday, June 10. In September he’ll be starting at Buckingham, Browne & Nichols, where his dad, Mark Lindberg, heads the drama department. James is off to high school and a new family tradition.
