The Social and Political Activists of Mount Auburn

(Part of Cambridge Discovery Days) Mount Auburn Cemetery has been called America’s Westminster Abbey because so many important Americans are buried there. Prominent Cantabrigians buried at Mount Auburn include natives James Russell Lowell and Margaret Fuller and notable citizens Jared Sparks, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Elizabeth Agassiz, and Harriet Jacobs. This 90-minute walking tour will visit the graves and review the accomplishments of selected social and political activists from Cambridge, while providing a general introduction to America’s first garden cemetery and treasured National Historic Landmark.

Rain or shine. Sturdy shoes are advised.
