My son, James, really wanted a racecar theme for his 4th birthday party, but I convinced him that a fire truck theme would be just as good. You see, our city's fire stations host birthday parties every Saturday and I didn't want to miss out on this perfect venue for James' party. Not to mention, it was an opportunity to design a cute fire truck for his invitation !
I had James pose with his age sign in front of the fire station. The firemen gave him (and the party guests) a plastic helmet and sticker badge to look the part of a real firefighter.
Once the guests arrived, the firemen demonstrated how they get their gear on starting with their big black boots and ending with their mask and helmet. The kids were fascinated (and a little scared) to see this process. The firemen were so nice to let the kids check out all of their stuff and get their pictures taken with them.

I like to use the Magnolia Bakery recipe when I make cupcakes. However, this time I made the 1-2-3-4 Cake on the back of the Swan's Down cake flour box (recently recommended by my mom). The cupcakes were delicious, especially topped wi th buttercream frosting.
James also wanted juice boxes so I made a fire truck label for them as well. They were printed on adhesive paper and just stuck to the box.

The kids loved exploring the fire engines and even got to hear the siren and see the lights! More party favor details tomorrow...
