Former Tufts Health Plan Worker Sentenced In Theft Of Customer Data

Emeline Lubin pleaded guilty in 2014 to stealing the personal information of more than 8,700 customers while working in Watertown.

WATERTOWN, MA – A former Tufts Health Plan employee was sentenced this week in the theft and disclosure of personal information of thousands of customers, including names, dates of birth and Social Security numbers, the U.S. Attorney's Office said.

Emeline Lubin, 30, pleaded guilty in 2014 to unlawful disclosure of Social Security numbers. She stole the personal data of more than 8,700 customers, primarily over the age of 65, according to the USAO. Lubin, who began working at Tufts Health Plan in Watertown in 2010, gave lists of customers' personal identification information to a Florida man, Sniders Jean-Jacques.

Jean-Jacques and Lubin's brother, Marvin Lubin, were involved in a scheme to steal Social Security benefits and collect fraudulent income tax refunds by using stolen identities to file false returns, authorities said. Jean-Jacques was sentenced to two years in prison in December 2014. Two months earlier, Marvin Lubin was sentenced to one year and one day.
