ICYMI: Watertown Man Victim of Newton Stabbing

The 53-year-old man is in stable condition, the Middlesex County District Attorney's office said.

WATERTOWN, MA – A 53-year-old Watertown man is in stable condition after being stabbed outside of a West Newton pharmacy on Tuesday, the Middlesex County District Attorney's office said.

The suspect was ordered held without bail Wednesday and must undergo a mental health evaluation.

Chad Kirby, 36, of Quincy, faces charges of assault with intent to murder and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

Around 12:25 p.m. Tuesday, police responded to a report of a stabbing outside of CVS Pharmacy on Watertown Street. Police found the victim, a 53-year-old Watertown man, bleeding from a head wound. He was able to walk to the pharmacy, where someone called police, according to WBZ.

Witnesses told police that Kirby, who was standing across the street, had allegedly stabbed the victim, according to the Middlesex County District Attorney's office. He was taken into custody without incident.

The victim was taken to an area hospital.

Kirby will next appear in court March 6.
