Local Priest Presides Nationally Televised Mass
Father Brian Clary Presides Mass on National Television Station
WATERTOWN, Mass. (October 16, 2015) – On Friday, October 16, 2015 the daily Catholic Mass was celebrated at the Watertown studios of CatholicTV in the Chapel of the Holy Cross.
Father Brian Clary of Saint Mary the Assumption in Brookline (MA) celebrated today’s Mass in honor of the feast of St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, V.H.M. Terrence Murphy served as lector and Elizabeth Murphy read the prayers of the faithful. In addition, Joseph Brice a student of St. John’s Seminary in Brighton served Fr. Clary at the altar.
St. Margaret Mary is most known for her devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. When she was in her 20s she started to see visions of Christ telling her to spread the devotion of His Sacred Heart as well as establish the feast. The Sacred Heart devotion was named the “Nine Fridays and the Holy Hour”. Sister Margaret tried for nearly ten years to convince her community and countless theologians on the validity of her visions and it wasn’t until Mother Melin was elected as Superior that the observance of the Feast of the Sacred Heart was established.
