Memories of Hotel Oloffson and Haiti

When I happened to watch a German/French movie "Hotel Haiti" on Arte.TV, it reminded me that I had stayed in the Hotel Oloffson in 1974.

I had previously described that connecting my iPad to our large screen TV and using various apps, has allowed us to watch many German and French movies. I also updated the post to include Italian and Spanish URLs and apps, although Spanish language programs are available with most cable companies anyways and how using a Google Chromcast gadget, makes it even easier to “cast” movies or shows from your PC or laptop to a big screen.

A few days ago I happened to watch a German/French movie “Hotel Haiti” on Arte.TV. It not only reminded me that I had stayed in that hotel in1974, but also that we are soon approaching the fifth anniversary of the devastating earthquake on January 12, 2010, which killed over 100,000 people and made more than 2 million people homeless.

The movie has a French (or German) narrative, but has many English dialogs. It not only tells the story of the Hotel Oloffson, but at the same time the story of Haiti since the early 1900s.
