New Golf Store Opening in Watertown

On March 24, Golf Town, Canada’s largest golf retailer, is launching in the U.S. with five stores in the Greater Boston area, with its largest  location in Watertown.

The 30,000-square-f00t store will be going into the former Linens 'n Things space in the Arsenal Mall, according to the Boston Business Journal.

Golf Town selected New England as its U.S. point of entry because golfers here are passionate about the game, virtually year round, according to company’s president and CEO Stephen Bebis.

"The golf superstore will offer local golf enthusiasts with a golf retail experience they have never experienced before. The superstore has the most extensive and competitively priced selection of golf equipment and apparel in the New England area. The sales teams are specialists in their specific golf merchandise as well as skilled at providing exemplary customer service," according to the Golf Town announcement.

Some of the features of the store, according to Golf Town officials, include:

• Golf Town’s sales associates are avid golfers who are experts in the product categories in which they work. For example, Golf Town has footwear experts, golf club specialists, bag experts, and fashion and style experts. This contrasts with the jack-of-all-trades sales associates working in other golf retail establishments. Also, Golf Town sales associate are non-commissioned.
• All Golf Town stores include a pro shop where certified club fitters can help find the best equipment for every player. Also, the simulator technology that lets you try the clubs before you buy them.
• Golf Town’s Boston area stores will bring a European fashion flair to its men’s and women’s clothing departments, with great fashion brands that area golfers have not seen before.
• Golf Town works hard to make sure its stores are user-friendly for players as well as for non-golfers who want to purchase equipment and fashion gifts for golfers.

Golf Town was founded in 1998 and has 52 stores in Canada, and five locations will open in the Boston and Providence area – Watertown, Seekonk, Reading, Avon and Bellingham – in March with and a sixth store slated to open in Northborough in the fall.
