One Book One Watertown: THE RACE UNDERGROUND
The Watertown Free Public Library's One Book One Watertown 2016 selection is 'The Race Underground.' Events are coming up in March!

The Watertown Free Public Library’s annual One Book One Watertown program is underway. This year’s selection is ‘The Race Underground: Boston, New York, and the Incredible Rivalry that Built America’s First Subway’ by Doug Most of The Boston Globe. This dramatic book was featured as an Amazon Best Book of the Month in February 2014, and earned great reviews.
This March, the Watertown community is invited to a series of events relating to this year’s selection, culminating in a visit from author Doug Most.

Documentary Marathon
Saturday March 5 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
We’ll be screening films about the history of mass transit on our big screen all day long. Stop in for a quick peek, or plan to spend the whole day – the choice is yours.
The Road Ahead with MIT SENSEable City Lab
Wednesday March 9 at 7 p.m.
The future is now! Join Erin Baumgartner, Assistant Director of MIT’s SENSEable City Lab, as she explains the work they’re doing on ride-sharing, electric bikes, e-vehicle charging stations, autonomous driving infrastructure, and more. Find out where we’re heading, and how we’ll get there.
Boston vs. New York Trivia Night

Meet the Author: Doug Most
Thursday March 24 at 7 p.m.
Join us as Doug Most shares what inspired him to write The Race Underground, and some of his favorite stories. Celebrate our 2016 One Book One Watertown series with great food and great company. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased with cash at the Circulation desk.
In addition to these events, the library will be exhibiting vintage photographs from the early days of the Boston and New York subway systems, and a selection from Laura Meilman’s Project T-Scapes, a series of drawings from each stop on the MBTA Red, Orange, Green, and Blue lines.
