Small Fire Damages Porch on Parker Street

Watertown Fire Fighters put out the blaze, which started around midnight on Monday.

A small fire caused minor damage to a porch on Parker Street, just after midnight Monday.

Firefighters had to use a hose to douse the flames that hit the first-floor porch of the three-family home, said Deputy Fire Chief Dan Tardif.  The cause of the fire was not determined.

“We got conflicting reports,” Tardif said. “One person said it was caused by someone smoking. Another person said they saw kids playing with fireworks in the area.”

The fire damaged the trim of the porch, Tardif said, but the porch is still usable.

“The porch had minor damage, probably about $1,000,” Tardif said.
